On July 22 we had the chance to collaborate with colleagues in the N. W. Harris Learning Collection with a table at Google’s Geek Street Festival in Daley Plaza. We arrived early with laptops, speakers, mics, and a variety of instruments from the Learning Collection. Participants experimented with sound looping by playing instruments from West Africa and then recording loops that brought together voices, claps, and rhythms, using MmmTsss.
Approximately 5000 participants from around the region had the opportunity to explore hands-on computer science and creative technology activities with facilitators from Museum of Science and Industry, Google, Chicago Public Library, Chicago Architecture Foundation and more. It was a great chance to introduce teens to new ways to create with technology!
